This project was a gut renovation. We were able to remove the chimney behind the shelving to gain some more space, and a larger closet upstairs. This home was not well insulated, and we furred out the walls and used Rockwool (made from basalt and recycled slag), along with a “smart” vapor retarder (this allows vapor through, but not bulk water.) We used paperless drywall, which doesn’t contain a food supply for mold. Linoleum, made from 97% natural materials, was installed for the new flooring. Both windows were replaced with double pane windows.
Part two of this kitchen work was rebuilding an exterior shed to make it part of the liveable space (and the new laundry room!)
